Saab Aero X

>> Monday, 11 February 2008

The Saab Aero X is a concept car with no doors, no keys and exceptional fuel economy. The Aero X is powered by a 400 hp 2.8-liter V6 twin turbo with aluminum construction that runs on pure ethanol and has a seven speed automated manual transmission with double clutch system. Weighing roughly 3000 pounds with acceleration of 0-60 in 4.9 secs and a top speed of 155 mph, its not exactly the fastest sports car there is, but what it lacks in speed it makes up for in design and fuel economy.

Built around the design of a fighter jet, it has a full 180 degree field of view with a fighter jet style cockpit that opens up with a push of a button. The Aero X has a multi functional control system on the center console that provides maximum control and allows the driver to start the car, open the canopy and change gears. Currently just a concept car Audi is planning on a production car inspired by the Saab Aero X and will most likely make it’s debut within the next year or so.

Audi Canada Wins Triple Crown In 2008 AJAC Awards

>> Wednesday, 2 January 2008

Only pure-bred sports cars are crowned “SportsCar” of the year by a panel of experts in the Autobild SportsCars monthly magazine.
Following its victory in the March 2007 issue, the Audi R8 has now been awarded top place overall, and has thus secured the title of “SportsCar 2007”, one of the German car industry’s most sought-after awards.

- Incredible Mid-Engined Audi R8 Named AJAC's Best "Prestige Car" for 2008
- Canada's Automotive Writers Name Audi's R8 The Most "Coveted Car" of 2008
- Audi S5 Declared AJAC's Best "Sports Performance Car Over $50,000" for 2008

Audi Canada's all new R8 and S5 models are triple crown winners today after being named by the members of the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) as the best cars in their respective "Prestige" and "Sports Performance Over $50,000" categories. In addition, Canada's leading automotive writers and editors, forced to revise their list of 'dream cars', have selected the all-new Audi R8 as the "Most Coveted" new car for the 2008 model year. The two winning Audi vehicles were evaluated against a long list of discerning criteria amidst a group of strong eligible competitors.

The AJAC Canadian Car of the Year competition gathers over 70 prominent Canadian automotive journalists in Niagara-on-the-Lake for several days in October for the annual "TestFest" event. This program has received high praise from journalists and consumers alike because the evaluation and voting processes are carried out in a professional, extremely fair, serious and equitable manner.

"Winning these awards marks a defining moment for the Audi brand in Canada", said Diego Ramos, Executive Vice President of Audi Canada, "especially when you consider the other fine automobiles with which the R8 and S5 were competing. I applaud the tremendous level of professionalism and integrity with which AJAC operates this annual competition." He added, "Clearly, these awards attest to the fact that both are leaders in their segment and that Audi is on the rise."

Audi Cross Cabriolet Quattro Concept

>> Friday, 16 November 2007

This is the Audi Cross Cabriolet Quattro concept, which previews the upcoming Audi Q5 mid-sized SUV. While the idea of an open top SUV echoes the classic post-WW2 Willys Jeepster model, there is not likely to be an open top production Audi Q5.

Instead, the production Audi Q5 will likely be a proper roofed SUV like the Audi Cross Coupe Quattro Concept which made its public debut at the Shanghai Motor Show earlier this year and share styling cues of both the Cross Coupe and the Cross Cabriolet.

While Volkswagen’s new Tiguan is based off a Golf platform, the new Audi Q5 will be based off a new MLP platform which underpins the new A4 and the A5. The Golf platform itself will be replaced by the Audi MQB platform in the future, which uses a transverse engine layout instead of the MLP’s longtitudinal layout.
